What does it mean to create an "original" work of art?
An original work of art is one not received from others nor one copied from or based upon the work of others.
In other words, it is 100% yours so you can be 100% proud.
This means that it came from your own mind and is your intellectual property. You OWN it and it is illegal for someone to take it and pretend it is theirs.
With this in mind, I want to encourage originality in your work.

Inspiration and skill building
We can be inspired by others to create something that we can call our own. We can be inspired by a technique or style. The key here is that we are not copying it and calling it ours. We have an INSPIRATION BOARD here in class to help inspire all of us to create original art.
We can also use other artist work as a training tool to build our own skills as an artist. For example, your daily drawing warm ups are copied from the internet for the sole purpose of helping you grow as an artist and as a drawer. You can copy these for practice sake but you can not call it an original work or your own intellectual property.
