Class Time Structure:
|
Welcome to the art room!
Below you will find a description of our daily class routine and classroom procedures. They will learn all about them during the first few weeks of school and we will use them all year long. If you have any questions, please email or call me. I am here to help! Kindly, Mrs. Douglas |
1. Grand entranceGreet the teacher at the door.
Pick up your warm up from your table's file box and go sit down at your table, put your belongings underneath your chair and begin drawing. This is done at a Whisper/Silent voice level. 4. Teach Time( 10- 20 minutes depending on the lesson)
Teach time is just what it sounds like. This is where the teacher will review the agenda for the day and introduce new concepts and our next steps of the current project. As the student, you are expected to listen quietly and participate so you can be successful. 7. Smartest Artist AND Dismissal(After cleanup to end of class)
If time allows we'll recap learning by playing a fun game "The Smartest Artists" where questions will be asked from the day/week. This will determine in what order the tables will be released from class. On days when we don't have time to play the game, tables will be released based on how quickly they all have cleaned up and gotten into 'Mona Lisa' position. Remember to HIGH FIVE your teacher on the way out! I'll be there by the door waiting for you. |
2. Art Warm Ups(5-7 minutes)
Warm Ups are a daily grade. In order to get an "A" (100 pts), you must: - Draw for the whole warm up time. - Show effort and care in your work. Show me that you are challenging yourself. - Pay attention to your own work and keep from disturbing others. Warm ups are designed to help you have daily practice to improve as an artist. It is meant for all skill levels. No matter what, do your best. It is proven that drawing everyday will improve your skill. After warm up time is done you will be asked to "thumbs up" signaling that it is time to stop working on your warm up and silently look up, waiting for the next instruction. About Snacks: ** You may eat a classroom appropriate snack during this time. Water bottles must be stored under your seat, not on the table top to prevent spills. You are responsible for keeping your area clean and taking care of any garbage. You must be responsible about this privilege or you will lose it. 5. Studio(15 - 20 minutes)
This is the BEST part about being in art class and my favorite time. This is our activity time. You will get the opportunity to put your ideas and learning into action as well as ask additional questions. You may chat in your group voice with your tablemates. Brainstorming together for ideas is encouraged. Conversations should always be uplifting and appropriate! Stay on task and work hard! We don't waste studio time! Never Ever! |
3. Motto Time(1 - 2 minutes)
This is the moment in our day where we say our class motto. "I am a great artist, I make my mistakes and then I fix my mistakes, I will never give up!" We say this daily affirmation to remind ourselves that no artist is perfect and to become better you must believe in yourself, learn to fix your mistakes and never quit trying. This is an extremely important part of our day, if you don't say it with the group you might have to say it by yourself. 6. Clean UpIt's Clean Up Time! A ten minute bell will ring towards the end of class. If we have a lot to clean up this will be our cue to stop working and clean up for the period change. Your clean up job is always listed on the Art Room Job chart based on your tables color. Be sure to check it out every week because it will change!
Mrs. Douglas puts on her serious face and insists that you must stop working. (I know it's hard. You're in the ZONE, but you must listen.) If this is an issue for you, we'll work something out to help you be prepared. |
Other Important Class room stuff...
Leaving Class
I'll explain this one in class. No sweat. It's easy once you get the hang of it.
About the sink
We have a unique sink. It is like alive...in other words I mean it needs special tender lovn' care. I'll fill you in on the details later. Bottom line: It's what's called a self contained portable sink which means we have to fill it and empty the waste water.
Discipline Level System
We want you to be at your best every day. If you are making choices that are not healthy for you or others, we have a campus wide consequence level system that will support you in getting back on track.
Level 1: Verbal Warning
Level 2: Phone Call Home and Lunch Detention
Level 3: Phone Call Home and Lunch Detention
Level 4: Phone Call Home and Saturday Detention
Level 5: Office Referral
Please note: You will get a clean slate or what's called a fresh start every 9 weeks. Also, this level system if based on low level behaviors. If a student is showing mid or high level behaviors an administrator will immediately escort the student to In School Suspension (ISS).
